You Tube and Google Video Explore

Rock and Roll Library is the You Tube Video I selected.
The video was a library graduate special project which transforms a guy. He finds everything about rock and roll in the library and to end the session he has a jam session in the library. We have great "jam" sessions in our library already which encourages the teenagers to borrow books in our music area.

You Tube and Google Video Discover

You Tube Vidoes
NJ Libraries
Great rap by the young adults of the area who visit the library.
People are interviewed and state they like the library for the homework help, the computers and a place to study. Great way to have the customers involved in their local library.
Q and ANJ Open Late Night
The approach of a takeaway, late night access to the Library (like McDonalds) was unique and fun. Librarians are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week via email for assistance.

Showcasing oral history
Broken Hill Olive Riley returns to Broken Hill
"Extracts from a film called all about Olive" showcases the life of Olive who is now 107. Wonderful for giving a first hand account of the past and in the film relates her childhood to present day children. Of personal interest as my mother comes from Broken Hill and I worked in Broken Hill.
Library buildings
State Library Qld construction video 3
Great time lapse footage of the construction. Good for building related questions.
Staff Orientation
PLCM New Employee
Positive and practical introduction to new employees. Smile, reference, collection management and maintenance staff all mentioned. Aim to be the best library with quality control from everyone.
Guide to using library services
Reference and Research Assistance
Great for Tutorials with Interactive Screens, tools for research, databases, reference books, subject guides etc.
Book Reviews
David Lee King Website
One video on site called Dr Daryl show involved teenagers doing book reviews. This would be great for encouraging teenagers in book reviews as a group.
Exhibtion
Art Express 2007
Excellent for HSC Students for major work ideas.

You Tube and Google Video

Interesting You Tube Video about how we need to think about information. Information having no fixed form in the digital age. Information is being created by everyone.

You Tube and Google Videos
The links to other videos similar to the one you are viewing was helpful. The wider screens or "black" boxed view with Google Videos reminded me of some foreign films I've seen. You focus more on the content. The ratings for the videos also reminded me of a film or book review.
Lego
I did not know the many ways you are able to use Lego blocks (or brickworks) in an animated form. Seeing "Monthy Python and the Holy Grail" and "Lego Indiana Jones" was fun.
Liverpool Plains
Liverpool Plains Harvest 2006 shared harvesting footage from around the world and individuals asked questions.
Kogarah
Kogarah Waratahs
Sporting links for the area.

Wikis and Posting Entry on Wikiepedia for Local Area

A great learning experience to share a small piece of information about the local area.

Slightly daunting to begin with when formatting the information in code and understanding the conventions but once I completed the entry was wonderful.

Footnotes essential for anyone wanting to find further links with the information posted.

Wikipedia and Wikis Explore

Being part of a group to contribute ideas for a Wiki is great. You realise libraries big and small experience the same type of customer both the positive and the "difficult".

State Library of Tasmania's Catalog (as a number of people have commented) has great potential. I liked the brief description of resources. When gathering resources for indepth information requests a brief summary is handy.

Wikipedia and Wikis

Contributing to the Wikis is like a group brainstorming session. Everyone has the opportunity to contribute their ideas and information e.g. German website for Wikipedia being more accurate than some published sources is amazing.

I selected the following Wikis to look at:
SJCPL Subject
Great for having explanations of different subject categories for the library e.g. Biographies and examples of books, resources in the collection.

Book Lovers Wiki
Wonderful idea for bookclubs with reviews and if the individual is shy can be anonymous. I've held bookclubs and this extends the posting of reviews on the library website with more comments.

Wookieepedia
For the Star Wars Fans. Up to date information e.g. new TV series coming up in August 2008. Star Wars if always popular for borrowers.

RSS and Newsreaders

RSS and newsreaders are great for gathering information together and pooling the ideas of individuals. A global sharing of news and ideas.

I selected the following sites and found some interesting tips for library searches.

Picture of the Day www.powerhousemuseum.com/imageservices from March 12 and 13.
Coloured Butter Sculptures made by Gyuto Monks of Tibet in 2004 for the Museum fits nicely for Harmony Day on the 21st March (we have a display in the library).

ABS for Librarians htttp//abs4libraries.blogspot.com provides latest information, news tip and stories including sources such as crime and justice statistics and 2011 Census for public consultation. I've had enquiries for both these topics and further leads are helpful.

Library Bytes http://librarybytes.com
Sharing tips from Librarians is wonderful.

SMH with a range of blogs http://www.smh.com.au/blogcentral.index.html
I selected out of curiousity the backpackers section and came across the topic Why I would whale - good for the for and against of whaling with individuals views of this issue.

ABC News www.abc.net.au/news/feeds/rss.htm
Current issues and podcasting interesting.

Flickr

When searching Flickr I found a great image under the term Library.
link is PAR-TIC-I-PA-TION, or 37 pieces of library flair by Cindiann
Tag: Short Version: If I'm willing to participate in an organization that is still largely "1.0" and populated with traditional librarians, why can't librarians put aside their fears and perfectionisms and choose to participate in social software web 2.0 and in their libraries?

Interesting image almost like a performing art piece demonstrating librarianship in a non traditional way with signs of blogging, software and new technologies.

A way to reach out in fun and funky new way!
